13 11 2009

The Varsity Boys picked up their game against the Sunnydale Spartans and made sure that they won. They played a tough defense and an even better offense.  Ross Noe took top scorer position this week at 16 points with an impressive 100% free-throw accuracy in addition to four two-pointers.  Titus Fansler (scoring three 3-pointers) and Jonathan Rider both added another 9 points to the board with Chance Britt adding 8 points. Peter Willis and Austin Stroud added 5 points each, Josh Allison threw in a 3-pointer and Joel Tilinski added a free-throw.  The final score was 56 Knights – 23 Spartans.  Congrats to the Knights on two excellent wins.

Lady Knights Leave No Doubts

8 11 2009

If you watched the Lady Knights play last year and then you watched on Saturday you would notice some changes and some similarities. Last year the Ladies depended heavily upon a suffocating press to defeat Life Church. This year, the press was totally absent. The result, however, was the same as Kirksville defeated Life Church 56-12.

Lindsay Howd led the Lady Knights with 12 points and numerous rebounds. Cambre Britt added 11 points of her own as well as some pretty nifty defense. Danika Askew, Naomi Rider, Chalee Britt, Joy Tilinski, and Megan Huber all added 6 points apiece. Kris Sturm chipped in 4 to round out the scoring. Everyone on the roster scored in the second half and the defensive pressure kept the Lady Lions off of the board until deep into the 3rd quarter.

During the game, the Lady Knights hit four 3-pointers, including two by newcomer Huber. Last season saw several games where the team did not make a single shot behind the arc.

The Lady Knights play Thursday at Sunnydale. The game starts at 6 pm. Last year Kirksville won both meetings with Sunnydale, including an exciting come-from-behind victory by one point in last seasons opening game.

Knights Roll Over Lions

8 11 2009

The Kirksville Knights scored at will Saturday afternoon as they pulled away from an over-matched Life Church Lions squad 68-21. The game was never in doubt as the Knights scored the games first ten points, but it was never as pretty as one might expect. Hampered by a “no fast break” rule that was ordered by the coaches, the Knights managed plenty of shots and rebounds.

Chance Britt led the Knights with 22 points followed by Peter Willis’ 15. Jonathan Rider, started the season with a 3-pointer, added 11 while Ross Noe tallied 8. Titus Fansler, the team’s lone senior, added 6 points as did Austin Stroud.

The Knights play Thursday (November 12) at Sunnydale. Last year the Knights swept the Sunnydale squads.

Junior Girls Squeak Past Life Church

8 11 2009

The Junior Lady Knights survived a very close game with Life Church Saturday, 4-2. Chalee Britt and Alexandra Gregory both scored to lead the girls to an opening game victory.

Several young ladies played in their very first game as members of the team. Grace and Hanna Chang, Abigail Rider, and Whitney Neil took the court for the first time while Hosanna Rider started her second season on the team.

Junior Boys Fall Short in OT

8 11 2009

The Kirksville Junior Boys team fell just short in Overtime vs. Life Church Saturday. It was the first game for both teams and it was exciting. Trailing by two with time running out Life Church hit a shot at the “buzzer” which at first was waived off, but later, after review with the referees and the clock team, was to be counted. The Junior Knights were led in scoring by Andy Killen’s 7 points and Joel Joplin’s 6. D. Harrelson chipped in a basket to round out the scoring for the boys.
